Scientists Discover A Way To Reverse Memory Loss

Scientists have stumbled on a world first in helping a man improve his memory.

They were experimenting with deep-brain stimulation in an attempt to curb the appetite of a 30st patient who suffered from a lifelong obesity problem.

Electrodes were pushed into his brain and stimulated with an electric current.

The treatment did not cure his eating problem - but he experienced vivid memories of an event that occurred 30 years earlier.

In the following weeks, and up to a year later, the memory of the 50-year-old patient improved.

NEWS FLASH- POSSESSING ALCOHOL IS ILLEGAL!!!

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A man who has been indicted on charges of illegally possessing up to $1 million worth of Jack Daniel's whiskey claims he is a collector who was trying to sell the vintage bottles they came in, not the spirits.

Randy Piper of Goodlettsville was indicted on four counts related to the illegal possession, sale, transportation and storage of the liquor.

Officials seized 2,400 bottles last October after receiving a tip that someone was selling alcohol without a license. They raided two warehouses owned by Piper and a home in Lynchburg where the famous Tennessee sipping whiskey is distilled.

The value of the seized liquor has possibly been driven up by the value of the antique bottles.

Piper told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he has been collecting Jack Daniel's bottles for about six years.

Piper's attorney, Raymond Fraley Jr. of Fayetteville, said his client was singled out for selling one bottle for approximately $350 and charged with illegally possessing all the others.

Dear Chris Matthews, We Tried Your Way And It Has Failed...

MSNBC's Hardball host Chris Matthews-

MATTHEWS: "You know what I think? In big cities they ought to check people on sidewalks like they do getting on airplanes. And why an airplane should be safer than an American sidewalk is crazy to me. Why you can walk down the streets of an American city carrying a concealed weapon without a license is wacky."

MATTHEWS: "I want people disarmed in our major, major cities. How's that for a plan? I don't think we should all be armed, and I don't think more guns is the answer. I think it's wacky to say that the solution to armed robbery and killing in our streets in big cities is to put more arms in the streets. Anyway, thank you Deroy."

Dear Chris,
We have tried your way and it has failed. EVERY SINGLE gun ban has INCREASED violence. IF we could 100% remove guns from an area the only thing that would happen is an increase in stabbing and other violent crimes. Some of us are smarter than a door-knob and don't need to get burned multiple times to learn that fire is hot.

Sincerely,
P

Oh Look, A Speeding Camera Company Falsifying Evidence To Get a Conviction!

Documents show Redflex may have used a falsely sworn document to convict motorists with speed camera tickets.

Summary- Two Arizona drivers are contesting mobile speed camera tickets. The Austrailian company (Reflex) who operates the camera falsified their evidence in two ways-

The form indicates that the speed camera van operator performed "Tuning fork tests" at the "beginning of deployment" and at the "end of deployment" and that both tests rated a "Pass." Cheryl A Krough, a notary public and employee of Redflex Traffic Systems in Scottsdale, Arizona, notarized the document with a seal indicating the document was "sworn to before me" in Maricopa County, Arizona, also on October 10, 2007.

Problem #1: The radar operator and Cheryl Krough are 1500 miles apart and neither made an actual journey. So Ms. Kroughillegally affirmed the document.

Problem #2: The radar used is not calibrated with Tuning Fork Tests!

More Government For Profit shenanigans!

"Handgun Bans Don't Work" - DUH!

If restricting ownership of handguns among ordinary law-abiding citizens had a positive impact on crime, our existing laws would already have produced the benefits. Since 1934, anyone wanting to own a pistol in Canada has had to be registered with the RCMP or the federal gun registry. The application process is long and arduous. The fact that almost no registered handgun owner ever commits murder or other forms of violent crime in Canada (one of the recent Toronto shootings being a noteworthy exception) is a testament to the thoroughness of the background checks.

On top of that, since the early 1990s, Canada's 500,000 or so handgun owners have had to have police approval to move their guns from their homes, and even then may only move them under the strictest of conditions. Typically, owners must lock their guns in a tamper-resistant case, which must further be locked in the trunks of their cars. Then they must drive directly from their homes to an approved shooting range and back, making no stops along the way -- even for gas or a restroom break.

None of this has stopped handguns from becoming the gun of choice for murderers, though. Among murders committed with firearms, handguns are now used in nearly two-thirds. That's up from just one-third less than 20 years ago.

Elsewhere, too, handgun bans have proved useless. Washington, D.C., for instance, which routinely ranks among America's murder capitals, has had a ban on handgun ownership for more than 30 years. Luxembourg prohibits private handgun ownership altogether, yet has a murder rate nine times that of Norway, which has one of the highest rates of firearms ownership in all Europe. After a massacre of elementary school students and their teacher at Dunblane, Scotland, in 1996, the British government confiscated all handguns from their registered owners across Great Britain. Yet since then, Britain's rate of violent crime has soared.

Open letter to Mike Duncan,The GOP & RNC

From: Joe's Crabby Shack...

(Warning: This post may contain language not usually heard outside a U.S. Navy/Biker/Welder/trucker bar containing my Aunt Nancy.)

To: Mike Duncan, president Republican National Committee
RE: GOP presidential candidates.

Dear Republican Party;

F*** you, Republican Party.

I’m done.

I like to think I’m a forgiving kind of guy, but I’ve had it with the GOP. For years, they’ve known that they can trot whatever asshat they want out there and we, the gunowners, will vote for them.

So, this year they just keep the shit train a rollin’ and give us the commie (Mitt), the Democrat (Rudy), the religious nutbag (Huck) and a candidate who thinks the Bill of Rights is a helpful suggestion but little else (McCain).

I’m not counting Paul because you Republicans don’t want anything to do with him.

The GOP figures it has the gun vote locked up, because look at the alternative… Obama, Hilary, and Edwards.

Guess what, Mr. GOP? Screw you. I’m going third party.

Frankly, I think all Freedom Fiends should, too.

Lest you think this is a Ron Paul stump speech, let me be very clear:

I don’t give a rat’s ass which third party you vote for… just don’t vote mainstream.

Before you waste your time and bandwidth preaching to me about wasting my vote, consider this…

How is voting for McCain, Huck, Mitt, Rudy, Obama, Hilary, or Edwards NOT WASTING MY VOTE?

If any of them are elected (almost assuredly) then I. Am. Screwed. As are you, if you have even the slightest affinity for firearms.

So, let’s spend our votes for a cause.

Don’t stay home, go vote third party.

Vote Paul or Green or Libertarian or Reform or Scientologist… I don’t care.

By voting third party maybe, just maybe, the asshats in power of the Republican party will see that the gun vote is no longer theirs do with as they please. Maybe, just maybe, come 2010 the rat bastards will give us some decent freaking candidates.

God, I feel like the ex-girlfriend that just figured out her ex- only tries to get back together with her long enough to get laid. She keeps taking him back, putting out, then finds him in shower nailing her roommate Cindy.

Enough. I’ve had it.

Tell you what, GOP.

If you decide you want the gun vote back, then get us an honest to God pro-Second Amendment candidate. Give him or her the support you never gave Thompson.

If you prove you really, really care about me and want to stick with me, I might… just might… let you back into my panties.

Until then…. F*** off.

US District Judge: It's Unfair That Illegals Can't Vote!

Moonbattery has this to say:

U.S. District Judge Stephen Robinson has discarded the concept of "one man, one vote" in Port Chester, New York. According to Robinson, counting votes equally "prevents Hispanic voters from participating equally in the political process in the Village." This is because many of the Hispanics in Port Chester don't vote, since they are not American citizens but rather illegal aliens.

BTW- Illegal supporter, Robinson, was appointed by GW Bush. Imagine that.

Another Set Of English Idiots.. "Pet Girl Kicked From Bus"

LONDON (Reuters) - A British bus company has apologized to a girl who is led around on a leash by her boyfriend and describes herself as a human pet after one of its drivers threw her off a bus.

Tasha Maltby, 19, told British newspapers she was the "pet" of her 25-year-old fiance Dani Graves.

Pictures showed her dressed in black Gothic-style clothing with silver buckles on a silver chain -- which the driver of a bus from the firm Arriva took exception to.

Maltby -- who lives on state benefits and got engaged in November -- said her choice of lifestyle might seem unusual but was harmless.

"I am a pet," she told the Daily Mail. "I generally act animal-like and I lead a really easy life. I don't cook or clean and I don't go anywhere without Dani. It might seem strange but it makes us both happy. It's my culture and my choice. It isn't hurting anyone."

Your life/culture isn't hurting anyone eh? What about all the families you steal from (by way of the government) because your worthless ass won't work!?!?

Idiots!

SAD: Last Native Speaker Of Eyak Dies

Chief Marie Smith Jones, the last full-blooded Eyak and last Native speaker of the Eyak language, died Monday at her Fairview apartment.

"She'd become something of a poster child for the issue of mass language extinction," said linguist Michael Krauss, founder of the Alaska Native Languages Center, and now retired from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. "She understood as only someone in her unique position could, what it meant to be the last of her kind. And she was very much alone as the last speaker of Eyak.

"It's the first, but probably not the last at the rate things are going, of the Alaska Native languages to go extinct. She understood what was at stake and its significance, and bore that tragic mantle with grace and dignity."

Anti-gun Bias At The Washington Post... Surprising?

Sailorcurt over at Captain Of A Crew Of One

Caught this gem of media bias-

Via Bitter, we discover this piece of...um...reportage...regarding [Virginia] Lobby day. Bitter's post focused on the anger of the anti-gun attendees which I commented upon in my original post; however, something different in the article caught my eye:

Hundreds of advocates flooded the state Capitol on Monday to urge the Virginia General Assembly to enact reforms on such issues as the environment, immigration and gun control.

...

Gun-control advocates, including survivors of the April 16 shooting rampage that took the lives of 32 victims at Virginia Tech, poured into a Senate committee meeting to support a bill that would require background checks for all gun-show sales. They then staged a "lie-in," lying on their backs outside the Capitol to draw attention to gun deaths in Virginia last year.

...

Many gun-rights activists also showed up at the committee meeting -- some wearing guns -- and came in force to watch the protest.

Notice the carefully crafted use of terms designed to give a visual of "hundreds" of anti-gun protesters "pouring" into the capital. And then the weak mention of "many gun-rights activists."

One is left with the distinct impression that the gun rights activists were in the minority.

This is prima facia evidence of the bias of the media in reporting. This piece was carefully crafted to paint a misleading picture. They didn't report anything factually inaccurate. In their account of "hundreds" they lumped the gun-control proponents together with environmentalists and other activists to maintain technical accuracy. No, it wasn't an outright lie, but this is a prime example of "spin." Carefully selecting phrases to paint a misleading or inaccurate picture.

Gun rights supporters outnumbered the anti-gun forces by AT LEAST two to one. Not only that, but the anti-gun groups freely admitted that they were actively busing people in from all over the state to bolster their numbers. Every gun rights activist that was there got there on their own motivation, on their own dime and of their own volition.

Media bias? What media bias?

75yr Old Woman Arrested For Slowing Down A Hungry Cop

Clear Water, Florida-
"The 75-year-old grandmother of eight [Jean Merola] was arrested for disorderly conduct after she refused a police officer's orders to move her car while she waited for the coffee and fries she ordered at the drive-through window."

Merola had pulled her Lincoln Town Car to an area where drive-up customers are directed if their orders will take some time. She ordered her fries without salt.

While waiting, a Clearwater police officer [Officer Matthew Parco] pulled up behind her and started honking his horn, she said. He was also waving his arms, apparently signaling for her to move her car, she said.

It was not immediately clear why the officer [Matthew Parco] was at the McDonald's.

Merola said Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard called her Saturday morning to offer an apology. "He says, "I am so sorry Mrs. Merola, this should never have happened."

Neither Hibbard nor Clearwater police were immediately available to comment.

Oh Look, Another Taser Death

"Authorities are investigating the death of a 29-year-old Fridley man shot with a Taser by state troopers, who said he had become "uncooperative'' after a rush-hour crash Tuesday evening.

The victim was identified by his father as Mark C. Backlund. Gordon Backlund said his son was on his way to pick up his parents at the airport after they had taken a short trip to Florida.

According to the State Patrol, he was involved in a rush-hour crash on Interstate Hwy. 694 near Silver Lake Road in New Brighton. The State Patrol said troopers shot him with the Taser because he was uncooperative. He was breathing but unconscious when paramedics arrived, according to Allina Medical Transportation spokesman Tim Burke but was pronounced dead at Unity Hospital in Fridley."

Ann Coulter Must Be Right...

Van Helsing over at Moonbattery has posted a piece about the death of Ann Coulter's father and how all the "open-minded peace-lovers" have posted many nasty things about Ann and especially her dead father (which they did not know personally).

This got me to thinking- the left, who are the ones forever condeming people for hate and having closed-minds, are the most vocal and vitrolic about Ann Coulter.

I frequent many online sites where you can post comments (Slashdot, Digg, Fark,& etcetera) and one thing I can count on is that when Ann Coulter is mentioned, the thread will quickly turn into a hate fest against her. People will go on about how they wished she would be raped, killed and any other nasty situation that they can dream about.

Here's the gist of this whole post: If you read their posts, you will find that the reason that liberals hate her with such intensity is because.... (Drum roll) ANN COULTER HATES!

Yep, people hate Ann Coulter because Ann Coulter hates!

All I can say is that liberals are the biggest hypocrites ever and Ann must be right about a lot of what she says if she pisses off the hypocrites so much.

"CNN is reporting that the US Homeland Security Department has mandated Real ID for drivers licenses. According to the article, this will not include a 'chip', but a list of options by state. Kalifornia is at it AGAIN! - Ticket Motorists on Their Own Property

"Meter maids in Escondido, California will soon be ticketing motorists who park on their own property. The city yesterday gave preliminary approval to an ordinance that authorizes both meter maids and police to ticket any vehicle stopped on private property with two wheels touching a surface that is not approved by the city for parking purposes."

"Lawn parking became an issue after the city council announced its intention to ban overnight parking on city streets, leaving some motorists with no place to leave their automobile. The move could generate as much as $200,000 in parking tickets in addition to revenue from parking permits."

"...the city can immediately collect $40 from "around the clock" ticketing efforts."

"The ordinance also makes a third violation a misdemeanor crime"

Oh Look, Genes, NOT Mercury, Seems To Cause Autism...

"The implicated segment of chromosome 16 holds only about 25 genes. When researchers find the biochemical pathway used by the problematic genes in causing autism's symptoms, it will be easier to find other genes involved in what scientists have long recognized to be a dauntingly complex and varied disorder."

"Earlier this week, researchers at the California Department of Public Health reported that the rates of autism in children born from 1989 through 2003 has risen, despite the fact that the preservative thimerosal, which contains toxic mercury, was largely phased out of vaccines during that time. It echoes studies in five other countries, including Canada in 2007, that failed to find a link between the use of vaccines or thimerosal and autism."
