It seems that Metallica is fulfilling their contract with Warner Records and is now thinking of how to promote themselves in the future as 'independants'. They apparently are now looking at file-sharing as an option like Trent Reznor and Radiohead have done.
So far though, almost every comment I have seen to this story is along the lines of:
What hypocrites!! They were just as blind as the record companies and now, with their tail between their legs they come to the internet table looking for a piece of the pie that they originally fought hard against.
Unbelievable!
I for one, would completely boycott these morons!
It seems that their fans will now remember how Metallica cared more for making money than the interest of their fans....
I don't think this will be as you hope Metallica... HA HA!!!
